I have noticed these characters' development is based upon several Frieza Army techniques/events shown in Dragon Ball Z: Zamasu switching his bodies with Son Goku to become Black is based upon Captain Ginyu's Body Change with the Saiyan hero on Namek; their signature move of using an energy blade is based upon Sauza/Salza's technique (first character to use such a thing) from DBZ movie 5; and they also confirmed that the reason for their "zero mortals plan" was Future Trunks' time travels that started with his interruption with Frieza & King Cold's invasion to Earth which altered the history of the main time line (according to them it was a "sin").
